Poker 10k Challenge

Mike Tang here, Born in Michigan, Economics Major at Rutgers, and avid poker player. So today I decided that it would both help my performance and just be cool to document a little challenge I've set myself and that is turning my 20 dollar deposit into a 10k bankroll. I'm not allowed to redeposit so if I go bust well then I'm going to have to find some freerolls to get back in the game. I'm doing this mainly to learn good money management (something I've been pretty lousy at in the past)and hopefully help others gain some insight into this very important, yet very overlooked, aspect of poker. I will be playing on Bovada for this challenge and will be recording my progress in excel (and taking pics of end of day numbers so you guys know I'm not cheating my stats :p) so it will be easy for everyone to follow.

Jonathan Jaffe is a World Poker Tour Champion with over $4 million in live cashes and was an online heads up specialist where he earned over $1 million. He recently final tabled the 2019 $10k WPT 5-Diamond for $355,125 and won the 2020 LHPO $25k HR for $340,285. Night 6 of $100 to $10K bankroll challenge. Balance sitting at $140. Official subreddit for all things poker. Chris Ferguson's $10K Challenge For those who don't know, Chris Ferguson is a professional poker player who has won 5 World Series of Poker bracelets. Nicknamed ‘Jesus' because of his long hair and beard, he plays most of his online poker at Full Tilt.

Poker 10k Challenge
In the past I have always just made a deposit, played for a month or so and either lost my buy in or won a few hundred dollars and simply cashed out. I've probably done this several times over the course of 2 years but I have recently started taking my poker more seriously and really want to put in the effort this time around. The biggest problem for me before was just not having the discipline and patience to play smaller limits, and taking risks that my bankroll could not cushion and playing blackjack so this time around I have some general guidelines

Just don't play blackjack
So I made my deposit about 3 days ago and started grinding the $1 STT SNGs things were going pretty poorly at first as I was running horribly, not taking the games as seriously as I could knowing they were only a dollar and easily getting frustrated at the other players and how they were playing. This was a recipe for disaster and my deposit quickly went down to $13, and so I went on tilt and played a 7 dollar STT won that and bounced to 27 dollars instantly. Yes I won, and it helped my bankroll immensely but I was rather disappointed in myself as the whole point of this was to learn good money management. I decided to make a compromise and started playing the 3 dollar triple-up STTs. Since then I have stuck with the 3 dollar games and done much better, as I am now at $66.43. The players are still a little looser than I am used to but I have adjusted my range accordingly to fit their playing styles. Being able to adapt to your opponents is crucial in poker, and so I plan to stick with my stake climbing from now on! Also, I played a few hands of blackjack today, broke even and no harm was done but I need to think of some sort of way to motivate myself not to play it as it's obviously always going to make me lose money in the long run. I'll think about it tonight, I mean just writing it on here for everyone to see how I messed up is a pretty good motivator in itself actually.
I have a bunch of other thoughts but I'll save those for another time, thanks for reading, come back tomorrow to see how I do and good luck to you all!

The One Drop Bluff

Not all bluffs occur in the Main Event, naturally, so we thought we'd shine the spotlight on another notable bluff in the $1,000,000 WSOP Big One for One Drop that occurred back in 2014.

At the final table, Scott Seiver raised to 1.2 million and Tobias Reinkemeier defended his big blind with .

Reinkemeier asked for a count and went deep into the tank. 'Scott I was trapping,' Reinkemeier said before the two had a short back-and-forth.

'I wouldn't normally fold this,' said Reinkemeier before the clock was called on him. The decision had taken over ten minutes before he eventually folded.
